Grid Testing - To Determine Need

In order to determine if a particular building needs to have an ERRCS or BDA installed, first we do a grid test.  The grid test is designed to provide a basis for installation.  We perform a test to indicate the power of the radio signal throughout the building in dBm (Decibel Milliwatts).  We also, generally perform a DAQ (delivered audio quality) test, either electronically or subjectively by creating and listening to radio traffic.

We set up a test plan for each individual building based on the size of the building.  We follow the requirements of the International Fire Code and the National Fire Protection 1221.  In order to get started, we need a print of the building in pretty much any format, but, we do prefer Autocad, if it is possible.  If not, the next best thing is pdf followed by jpg and pretty much any other discernable format or picture.  Depending on the format provided, we may have to take some measurements, on site.

Ultimately, the Authority Having Jurisdiction, otherwise known as you local Fire Chief, Fire Marshal, or Inspector, will decide the need of having an ERRCS installed.  Any questions, check with the local authority, first.

Our Test Plan Setup

We set up the actual test based on the requirements of the codes.  International Fire Code and NFPA 1221.
